Cartoons are nice
I strongly disagree that cartoons are perceived automatically as being talked down to. The Story of Stuff series was made with teenagers in mind but I've found many adults who love it and have learned a lot from it. If you include articles with the hard evidence alongside the cartoon then people have choice.
Who's elitist?
Comics are everywhere. The only reason NOT to use them is that they offend the culturally hidebound harrumphers like MichaelKenny. Love them purple adverbs & adjectives though!
Oh no!!!
The problem with the simplistic and childish cartoon format is that it embarrassingly symbolises the 1930s-style bad habit of middle class know-alls “talking down” to the uneducated and unwashed laborious masses who are (supposedly!) just too ignorant and too thick to understand anything that’s expressed in more than one sentence or in words of more than four letters. In 1931, this might have looked intelligent but in 2011, it’s just absurdly elitist and that is a disastrous blunder.
